Home of the Month | July 2014

The attractive buttercup yellow, tree shaded home at 726 25th Avenue North fits snuggly on the well-manicured lot and is the July/August – Home of the Month. The Hallas Family, Gary and Kelly purchased the home in August of 2003.  They have a daughter, Morea, and a son, Tanner.  Rounding out the family is Sushi, the family dog.

The two-story home makes great use of space with the first floor consisting of a living room, dining room, a bedroom converted to an office, bathroom, kitchen and off the kitchen is a play room, that leads to the backyard. The laundry room and entrance to the garage are located on the first floor adjacent to the kitchen area.  The second floor of the home has a master bedroom and bath, two bedrooms and another bathroom.

The living room, “the favorite room of the house” has a very comfy feel to it and is usually where the family gathers to watch TV. The open floor plan between the living and dining room areas, lends itself to much interaction between the two rooms.  The eye-catching fireplace in the living room, framed by built in bookcases, can easily heat both rooms, when the weather gets a bit cooler during the winter months.

Good health and fitness is a family affair in the Hallas household.  You may often see the entire family riding their bikes or walking to Crescent Lake Park to enjoy the outdoors and get some exercise.  Kelly is an avid runner and enters the Walt Disney World Marathon every other year. To stay in shape and to compliment her training, she enjoys a weekly gathering with a local running group.  Gary enjoys all types of exercise, his most current challenging sport is stand-up paddle surfing, also called paddle boarding.  Paddle surfing is a challenging surface water sport that is usually performed in the open ocean, with the participant paddling and surfing unbroken swells to cross between islands or to travel from one coastal area to another.  To enhance his skills and stay competitive in stand-up paddle surfing, Gary enters group challenges in the sport of paddle surfing.

Gary is a graduate from the University of South Florida.  He is the President of Tsunami Marketing, a full service marketing firm that focuses on creating marketing programs, sponsorship development and marketing special events.  Kelly has a Master’s degree in Counseling and is a Student Advisor Counselor at St. Petersburg College (SPC).

When asked what they enjoy about living in Crescent Heights neighborhood, Kelly responded with “The different architecture of all the homes, the friendly neighbors and how the neighbors look out for one another. It’s a very nice neighborhood to live in.”
