Home of the Month: 450 25th Ave N

Good Things Come in Small Packages

Who would have imagined this 568 sq. ft. house could be turned into a 2100 sq. ft. house? Don “Trip”  Saunders, III, did! Trip purchased the house in February, 2006. Through the insight of a contractor and countless hours of sweat equity, he turned this house into a very spacious home that has an open floor plan, a beautiful kitchen, family room, three bedrooms, one of which is a master bedroom, and two and half bathrooms.

The most striking feature of the home is the delightful family room and kitchen combination that has a lovely view of the landscaped backyard.

When the house was first purchased, Trip could wrap his arms around one supporting pillar at the entryway of the house and could literally be in all four rooms at one time. The original home consisted of one bedroom, bath, kitchen and den.

Some of the unique features of the house are the metal roof with a life span of fifty years; curb- appealing natural Florida landscaping and custom galvanized metal accent gutters. Many of the one-of-a-kind features of the home were conceptualized and built by Trip; for example, the concrete kitchen and bath countertops. These were formed by hand and infused with color to create a beautiful custom look to the kitchen and bathrooms of the home. Another hand-crafted feature of the home is the louvered handrails and railings that surround the front porch made of IPE wood decking. This decking material is as durable as it is striking in its natural beauty.

Trip was attracted to the Crescent Heights area because of the easy going, less congested neighborhood and friendly atmosphere it offers.

He has not been disappointed in his decision to purchase a home in Crescent Heights. The remodeling of this home has been challenging and rewarding. His home has provided him a “proving ground” for experimenting with new ideas and designs that he may be able to use in his own construction company, Saunders Construction Company (727-463-8430). The company does both commercial and residential construction.

Trip turned this diamond in the rough into a jewel of a home. When you walk by and see him in his garage, stop and say hello.
