3rd Annual CHNA Food Drive

Food Drive for Daystar Life Center

For the third year CHNA and The Church of Beatitudes are sponsoring a food drive to benefit Daystar Life Center.  While fall food drives are very popular and the food pantry shelves fill up, donations go way down in the summer months.

How We Can Help

What:  Third annual Food Drive to benefit Daystar Life Center, Inc.

Where:  Drop off donated items at the Church of the Beatitudes, 2812 Eighth Street N.

When:  Monday, July 24 and Tuesday, July 25 from 8:30 AM to 1 PM, and 7 to 8 PM.

Why:  During the summer months donations decline and the pantry is more and more depleted.  Fall and winter holidays always provide awareness for helping those in need, and Daystar’s food and shelves reflect that, too.

Needs:  Non-perishable foods are needed, especially the following: Tuna; Macaroni and Cheese; Pasta; Peanut Butter; Spaghetti Sauce in cans or plastic jars; Baked beans or black beans;Diced Tomatoes; Canned Ravioli or Spaghetti

Daystar is also in need of men’s clothing, particularly jeans, shorts and tee shirts for their on- site clothes closet which services Daystar’s homeless clients.  (Children’s clothing and toys are not accepted).

Who:  Daystar is a major social service agency impacting 45,000 – 50,000 persons yearly.  Founded in 1982 as a mission of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, it has evolved into an ecumenical, community-supported, volunteer-driven, non-profit organization providing the basic necessities of life on an emergency basis to the needy of Pinellas County.  Services provided include food and clothing, utilities assistance, basic hygiene items, bus passes for transportation challenged people, help applying for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly food stamps), and more.  More than 200 volunteers allow the agency to hire a minimum number of paid staff so that 95% of donations are directed to client services.
