Algebra I and Geometry – End of Course Exam Review Classes

Algebra I and Geometry – End of Course Exam Review Classes

Beginning on Monday, March 10, 2014, and running until Wednesday, May 7, Dr. Charles Sims will offer a series of afternoon review classes to help students prepare for the Florida End Of Course exams in Algebra I and Geometry.  The classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays according to the following schedule:

3:00-3:55 Algebra I.
4:00-4:55 Geometry.
5:00-5:55 Algebra I.  Priority for this class will be given to middle school students but high school students may attend if space is available.

The classes will be held in the educational building of Church of the Beatitudes located at 2812 Eighth Street North, St. Petersburg.  The building is handicapped accessible.  The classes will meet each week except for the week of March 24-28, which is spring break.

For 42 years, Dr. Sims was a mathematics professor at Rutgers, The State University of  New Jersey.  He has extensive experience working with mathematics students at a wide variety of levels.  He is now retired and lives in St. Petersburg.

These series of classes will review all material covered in the algebra and geometry courses and offer some exam-taking suggestions specially designed for the math EOC tests.  On average, each 55 minute review class will cover the material from two weeks of regular school classes.  Students will be encouraged to attend all classes of a series.

To provide students with the best possible learning experience, enrollment in each class will be limited to 25.  To get more information and to reserve a spot in one of the classes, students are asked to contact Dr. Sims by email at ccsimsfl@gmail.com or by telephone at 727-896-8483 by Friday, March 6.

Volunteer | Gleaning

Dear Neighborhood Resident,

We learned a lot from our first gleaning event on June 29th. We learned that the weather is unpredictable (it rained) and there are a lot of varieties of mango trees that ripen at different times.  Originally, we planned on  hosting four seasonal gleanings per year. Since the June 29th event, we have received numerous calls and emails from people who have ripe trees and need help picking. So, we are trying things a little differently. We will host a meet up the first Saturday of every month, if someone has contacted us about picking their tree, volunteers will be directed to those locations first. Otherwise, we will go and canvas different neighborhoods in an effort to map where the fruit trees and gardens are located and make contact with homeowners to see when their trees are ripe and if they are willing to share. Avocado trees are in season now.

The information for our next gleaning day is below. Thanks!
